CargoBeamer Raises up to €65 Million From Orion Infrastructure Capital
€205 million growth capital secured over past 12 months
CargoBeamer, a leading logistics company and intermodal terminal operator, driving the shift of freight transport from road to rail in Europe, has raised up to €65 million in a combination of equity and debt financing from Orion Infrastructure Capital (“OIC”). Alongside €50 million from existing shareholder and €90 million in grants from the German Federal Railway Authority and the Swiss Federal Office of Transport – both raised in 2024 – CargoBeamer has secured a total of €205 million in growth capital over the past 12 months.
CargoBeamer is a pioneer in providing much-needed climate-friendly logistics solutions in the road-rail industry. Its unique technology of intermodal terminals and railcars allows semi-trailers to be transferred on freight trains by an entirely automated handling technology within 20 minutes – nine times faster than in conventional crane terminals. Using CargoBeamer’s rail connections between logistics hubs across Germany, Italy, and France means reducing carbon emissions by around 85 per cent, compared to Diesel-based trucking. In parallel, it contributes to relieving congested highways and resolving the significant shortage of truck drivers. By 2032, the addressable market of mid- and long-distance road transports in Europe is estimated to be worth around €88 billion.
The investment will support the construction of two CargoBeamer-Terminals in Kaldenkirchen, Germany, and Domodossola, Italy, enabling fast and sustainable transshipment of road freight units to rail. Initial construction of the sites is to commence in 2025 and will be completed by 2026. The sites will become the second and third CargoBeamer-Terminal in Europe, with the first having been inaugurated in 2021 in Calais, France.
“CargoBeamer’s proprietary technology will be instrumental to enabling the road to rail freight transition, which aligns with our objective to build cost-advantaged logistics solutions that also enhance decarbonization efforts,” comments Jeremy Glick, Investment Partner and Head of Infra Growth at OIC. “We are confident that CargoBeamer will drive the modal shift to rail in Europe with its two extremely innovative new intermodal terminals.”
“We are excited for our capital partnership with OIC, in which we have laid important cornerstones to make CargoBeamer the intermodal champion that drives the much-needed modal shift of freight from road to rail,” adds Nicolas Albrecht, CEO of CargoBeamer. “From the first day, OIC has proven to be a visionary partner dedicated to help realizing state-of-the-art infrastructure that allows to decarbonize land-based transportation in Europe. Our terminals in Kaldenkirchen and Domodossola are perfectly placed on the ends of the most-frequented intermodal corridor in Europe, and the unmatched density and speed of our rail connections in between will be instrumental in shifting freight to rail at scale.”

About CargoBeamer
The CargoBeamer Group is an innovative logistics service provider in the combined transport between road and rail. As a pioneer in decarbonizing freight transport in Europe on a large scale, its mission is to improve the environment with disruptive and cost-effective solutions to shift freight transport from road to rail. The CargoBeamer system, consisting of patented wagons, transshipment terminals, and logistics software, enables especially non-craneable semi-trailers to be transported by rail, resulting in a significant reduction of CO2 emissions and other external costs. Presently, trains are operated in Germany, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The company is creating a European network of efficient CargoBeamer terminals, connected in fixed timetables with intermodal trains in high frequencies. This means climate-friendly rail transport for hundreds of thousands of semi-trailers per year and a significant relief for the environment and society.
