CargoBeamer expands route network
Duisburg – Poznan and Calais – Perpignan added to the company’s portfolio
The Leipzig-based logistics service provider CargoBeamer launches two new intermodal lanes. Starting in June, customers can transport semi-trailers environmentally friendly by rail between Duisburg and Poznan as well as between Calais and Perpignan. This adds to the existing route of the company from Kaldenkirchen to Domodossola.
Three roundtrips per week are scheduled between the inland port of Duisburg in western Germany and the Polish city Poznan. Next to CargoBeamer, the duisport Group will serve as a joint operator of the new route. Both companies closed a deal focussing on a strategic partnership in 2020 and are looking forward to start transports on this new intermodal route by June. Besides semi-trailers CargoBeamer also enables the transport of P400-trailers, containers, bulk and frigo trailers as well as of dangerous goods.
Start for first CargoBeamer terminal in Calais
The lane between Calais and Perpignan in France is the second one to be added to the company’s product portfolio within the upcoming weeks. Simultaneously it serves as the starting point for the first terminal fully using the CargoBeamer technology, which is currently close to completion in Calais. The site in northern France aims to serve as an international logistics hub, connecting intermodal transports from the British Isles with southern and eastern Europe. The French lane will be offered from 14th June, starting off with two roundtrips per week. By 5th July the frequency will increase to four weekly roundtrips.
“The new lanes between Duisburg and Poznan as well as Calais and Perpignan will serve as an important step towards our vision of a European network of intermodal CargoBeamer trains, a goal we are constantly working on to achieve. Together with our partner duisport we are very pleased to address the eastern European markets for the first time. We are strongly considering more actions towards this region in the near future,” illustrates Nicolas Albrecht, Chief Business Development Officer and part of the three-member CargoBeamer executive board. “With our lane from Calais to Perpignan we are able to lay the formation for domestic French transports from the English Channel to the Mediterranean Sea and Iberian Peninsula. Additionally, we are very excited to see our first CargoBeamer terminal in regular market use in Calais. Here CargoBeamer is going to show the main advantages of its technology to the rest of the world by handling six to twelve train pairs per day in record time. Calais will serve as an important cornerstone to enable more environmentally friendly cargo transports by rail in the future.”
About CargoBeamer
The CargoBeamer Group is a logistics service provider in the “combined transportation road-rail segment” based in Leipzig, Germany. Thanks to the company's technology of rail cars, handling terminals and logistics software nearly all standard semi-trailers of all types can use the train – without additional conversions and reinforcements for the trailer and even without a driver and tractor unit. A first route between Kaldenkirchen at the German/Dutch border and Domodossola in northern Italy has been serviced by daily trains since 2015 and is fully utilized – more than 70,000 trailer journeys through Germany and the Alps have been transferred to the environmentally-friendly railroad track to date. In the medium-term CargoBeamer will realize a European route-network of high-performing and innovative transhipment facilities at important transport hubs. This will secure sustainable rail-transport for hundreds of thousands of semi-trailers per year – reducing CO2-emissions and relieving environment and society.
